#WeGiveACup to The Shelter Project Hounslow!

#WEGIVEACUP is a huge part of The Kettle Shed‘s ethos, from the first box of tea we sold back in 2014 we have donated tea to homeless shelters across the UK.

We want to share this blog with you for our lovely customers to see where your donations are going through the #WeGivaCup process.

This month we took a batch of breakfast tea over to TSPH, (The Shelter Project Hounslow) to donate to their wonderful programme who provide 14 male guests’ hot food and accommodation from January to March inclusive.  These will mainly be individuals with no recourse to public funds, but a small percentage who have temporary housing needs will also be welcomed on the advice of local referral agencies.

[ Video from TSPH Website ]

INFO regarding the programme

The shelter is held in a different church each night of the week from December to March inclusive, providing emergency accommodation and hot food for up to 14 male guests every night.

Objectives

Churches in Hounslow across denominations working together to offer the homeless a safe and warm environment in the coldest winter months.

An opportunity to demonstrate the love of Christ to those who for various reasons have no roof over their heads, and who have suffered the lack of a sense of community, human compassion and kindness.

Supporting local referral agencies working with the homeless to help individual’s access appropriate support and encourage them in their transition back into community and out of homelessness.

Why they need your help

The Project keeps its costs down to a minimum through its use of volunteers.  They do however need just £10,000 per year to continue to run their services and they are seeking YOUR help in order to try and secure their future. The Project absolutely rely on voluntary funding to be able to carry on and without the generosity of their supporters there are people who will remain on the streets of Hounslow, who do not have the support they need to move their lives forward.

What might your contribution fund?

The following donations could help The Project provide:

 • £5 a bag of toiletries – so important if someone has a job interview!

 • £45 an evening meal for a full Shelter of 14 men

 • £850 keeps our entire Project going for another month

 • £1500 helps provide mattresses and bedding for a whole winter

#SBS WINNER

So Shedders, if you have been following us on Twitter and Facebook then you may have already seen that The Kettle Shed got picked as Dragon Den’s, Theo Paphetis#SBS!

In December, Zoe AKA. The Tea Lady, owner of The Kettle Shed, tweeted Theo about her business during ‘Small Business Sunday’ and was hand picked as a winner and the lovely Theo Paphitis retweeted this to his 500,000 Twitter followers.  The weekly initiative, set up by Theo in 2010, now has 1700 #SBS winners and supports small businesses in the UK. Small Business Sunday, shortened to the hashtag #SBS on Twitter.

Theo is best known for appearing on Dragons Den on BBC Two. He is Chairman of Ryman Stationery plus Boux Avenue lingerie, Robert Dyas and latest acquisition London Graphic Centre, as well as joint owner of Red Letter Days. They are also profiled on the #SBS website (www.theopaphitissbs.com) that is exclusive to all Small Business Sunday winners.

SBS BadgeZoe mentioned some of her proudest moments within The Kettle Shed and who we are: “Wholesale and Retail Tea: Sold in trendy cafes, restaurants, hotels, health food stores and even a west-end barbers! (For full range on where to find us click here!)

My Bang on Breakfast Tea won 2 stars at the Taste Awards, which makes me very proud as this section is pretty difficult with the amount of entries.

We really do “Give A Cup!”, which is why every time someone buys a box of tea/fuso bags, we donate tea directly to homeless shelters across the UK.”

Small business champion and Ryman Stationery, Robert Dyas and Boux Avenue Chairman, Theo Paphitis, said: “We are thrilled to welcome new #SBS members every week and highlight just how important it is to support our small businesses here in the UK.  My vision is that everyone who has ever won an #SBS re-tweet from me becomes part of a friendly club; like-minded individuals who can share successes and learnings. The website and Shop #SBS will also give a valuable profile to the winners chosen and I wish The Kettle Shed every success.”

#SBS Winners now also have access to the exclusive members’ selling platform www.shopsbs.co.uk where hundreds of winners are already selling thousands of products, from unique gifts and bespoke furniture to pet toys or jewellery.  It is another opportunity for the #SBS winners to turn tweets into sales.

We want to use this opportunity to thank all of our followers and stockists for all the support you are giving to small businesses within the UK. We hope that 2017 continues to give us the recognition and support that we have been working hard for!

Make Matcha your detox this January

Let’s face it we probably all had a bit too much to eat and drink over the festive period, but now is the perfect time to kick start a healthy campaign.

There are many ways in which you can become healthier this January including more exercise and watching what you eat but what about something to drink?

Here at the Kettle Shed we have the answer with our Matcha Green Tea and Chinese White Tea varieties.

matcha_green-tea

Our Matcha is the most potent of green teas which was originally reserved for Japanese royalty and religious dignitaries.

The secret to this extremely healthy tea is its fantastic antioxidant properties, minerals and vitamins which brings health benefits including energy boosts, calorie burning and detoxing of the body.

Acting as the perfect start to the day or an antidote to post-lunch sluggishness, you can see how to make Matcha Tea plus a Matcha Latte in our videos below.

Not only can you produce tasty tea out of Matcha but it is also used to make cakes and baked goods by replacing a small amount of flour with Matcha powder, while you can even stir it into your cereal or sprinkle some onto your popcorn if you fancy!

pure_white_tea

That isn’t the only tea to help you detox in 2017 however, because the cooling liquor in our Pure White Chinese White Tea is also full of antioxidants.

Pure White is the least processed of our teas and its white leaves are simply dried on bamboo racks in the shade.

So if you’re ready to enjoy a healthier, happier and more prosperous 2017, make our Matcha Green and Pure White teas your new drink for a new year.

Remember, at The Shed, we really do ‘Give A Cup’! Every time you buy a box of tea, we donate tea directly to homeless shelters across the UK. Our packaging is made from recycled cardboard and our fuso tea bags are biodegradable, so we don’t harm the planet.
